Monstar! is a collaborative project based on the game Consequences.

I am totally in love with this idea since Consequences was a favourite game of mine when I was younger. The drawing version was my preferred mode. I remember lots of silly creatures which I found endlessly amusing and every time it was my turn to draw the legs, the creature/thing would always be excreting something (it always has to come back to poo and farts when you’re a child… or an adult).

There is some pretty cool artwork in there already, but Monstar! Is still growing and taking submissions. To find out more or grab a template go here and to have a flick through the game go here!

I’ve been looking at some horrid/lovely kitsch figures, lots of porcelain ornaments and tacky crap! check out these gorgeous examples which I found on flickr….

They all seem to have manic or deformed faces, which I LOVE!

I illustrated two post cards one with a carnivorous creature and one with a herbivorous creature. It was an idea that came from thinking about how a single aesthetic feature of a character can give it a personality.

The exhibition runs from 19/01/10 to 10/02/10 at

EastCoast School of Art & Design
Westward Ho
Grimsby,
North East Lincolnshire,
DN34 5AW

open Mon - Fri (closed weekends) 10am -4pm

I sent some stickers with my sub so you might be able to grab one! also you can check out some of the other subs as they are added to the flickr group here

Herbivore

It is almost 2010 and I thought this would be the perfect time to start a fresh with a long awaited website update willdotadams and a blog to go with!

I’ve decided that in 2010 I shall make more use of social networking in an attempt to meet more creatives and get involved with some of the interesting projects and collaborations that are being organised online. I also plan to use this blog to provide regular updates on projects that I am working on and to catalogue any research or inspiration that I come across. So hopefully it wont be just me who finds this blog useful/interesting.

SO, since it’s christmas I thought I would share the two books I received as presents. Firstly is ‘Illustraion Play’ published by viction:ry

Illustration play takes a look at some of the more tactile approaches to illustration, it features examples of illustration in textiles, paper sculpture and found materials. I was really drawn to the magical and amusing embroidered scenes by Megan Whitmarsh which feature lots of yeti like creatures shooting magical beams of colour. I also spent the best part of an hour staring at the beautiful paper sculptures by Peter Callesen.

Secondly is… ‘The Elements of Pop-up’ by David A. Carter and James Diaz

I’ve been thinking about building some pop-up artwork for a while so this book is perfect! it features some really clever techniques, I just need to make sure it stays out of the reach of my multiple neices and nephews so it doesn’t get destroyed before I get back to London. Hopefully I can post some examples of me putting these techniques into action in the new year.

So, thats it. my first ever blog post, here’s to many more!

wishing everyone and awesome new year!
